The Brief: In an attempt to capture and retain the rich history of the largest 3.5 star hotel in the Commonwealth, the website design process was both inspiring and unique.

As a historic landmark situated in the heart of Melbourne, this iconic hotel represents the grandeur of a by gone era.

The previous website was built in 2008 and featured all of the specialties that were trending at the time. The objective was to design a new website that lends itself to a contemporary feel and maintains a connection to the yesteryear. This is what inspired our designers to take users on a journey through time, right through to all the mod-cons of a website that is intended to lead the property well beyond 2014. In order to execute this, the contemporary full width, high resolution images were splashed throughout the site, showcasing the many wonderful features that this well situated hotel is renowned for.

Each banner on the site serves as an extra intelligently ‘gallery’ where users can get a sense of the experience that they will receive when securing accommodation in such a well sought after, prominent location. The execution of the Book Now page allows for the Booking Engine to be presented in an iFrame, so as to not lead users offsite. This has a positive and significant impact on the user experience and conversion as they can easily refer back to room information as they make their booking.

Keeping a very tight focus on brand standards, we were also able to incorporate the famous Ibis Styles green to the typography throughout the site and to the hover effects on the homepage. This delivers a sophisticated translucent green overlay on the call-to-action tiles.
